Herring Pond WAMPANOAG Tribal Land Fundraising Campaign
Where the Land and People Become One Again
The Herring Pond Wampanoag Tribe is restoring and revitalizing Indigenous communities through the protection of Land, the renewal of our culture, and the strengthening of our people. Our work is guided by Traditional Ecological Knowledge, the teachings carried forward by our ancestors, and the responsibility we hold to care for the Land that has sustained our families since time immemorial.
Rematriation and repatriation are both central to this effort. Rematriation returns the Land to the care of Indigenous women, families, and communities who carry the teachings of balance, reciprocity, and ecological responsibility. Repatriation honors the role of our men, who stand beside us in stewardship, protection, and restoration of our homelands. Together, these practices restore the relationships that sustain biodiversity, renew habitat, and strengthen the cultural knowledge that guides our care for the Land. By returning these places to Indigenous stewardship, we ensure that our ancestors are honored, all living beings are protected, and the next generations of Wampanoag people inherit a thriving and supports a thriving future for the next generations of Wampanoag people, held within the teachings and responsibilities of our homelands.
Your support will help secure the return of Tribal Land in Massachusetts, ensuring that these homelands are protected for future generations. It will also help establish a lasting endowment dedicated to stewardship, ecological restoration, and cultural use of this sacred place.
Our vision for this Land centers on restoring biodiversity, renewing habitat, and returning Indigenous stewardship to places that have been cared for by Wampanoag people for thousands of years. We are guided by Traditional Native Knowledge, which offers a clear and time-tested blueprint for sustainable land care within the Plymouth and Barnstable region.
This work is not only about acquiring Land. It is about respect reciprocity and protecting our legacy. The Herring Pond Wampanoag Tribe of the Wampanoag Nation is the last remaining Tribal community to hold ancestral Land in Plymouth, and safeguarding these homelands ensures that cultural identity, ecological health, and community wellbeing remain connected.
We invite you to stand with us as we restore the sacred relationship between people and the natural world, a relationship where both thrive in balance and mutual care. Together, we can shape a future that honors Indigenous stewardship, strengthens cultural renewal, and protects ecological resilience as a shared responsibility embraced by all, for the wellbeing of the next seven generations.
